May 7 in Burgos

We went to two places today. One place was the Monastery of Las Huelgas and then to the famous Burgos Cathedral. We walked along the river by the old city to get to the Monastery. We could only take a tour in Spanish, so my Mom translated for me. What was interesting were the 800 year-old royal clothes  in their museum. All of the threads were made of real gold! Also, the clothes of girls were really really long, so that they would have to hold up their skirts to walk.

After lunch, we went to the big cathedral. Wow, it was very full. It was different from the other cathedrals because it was HUGE and had so many carvings and paintings that they say it takes a whole week to really see it all. One of the really cool things was a really big book that they used for the choir to sing. Since books were really expensive when the cathedral was built, they made one very big one that everyone could use at the same time.
The Cloister was different because it was covered with stained glass windows. They were very beautiful. When the light was just right, the color from the windows painted a reflection on the window sills. Here is a model of the cathedral.
